So why does the male marine get a massive suit of armor to take into combat and the female get a skin tight suit that looks like it couldn't stop a spitball?

Just for the sake of facts, in the Starcraft universe women can be Marines as well as Medics (which also have massive armor suits), just as men can also be ghosts.
