Hear me now, Oh digital painters!

Our team over here in Creative Development at Blizzard Entertainment, are scouring the globe for one more bad-ass piece to the puzzle. We're looking for a mega-talented individual to join our team. You'd be joining Glenn Rane, Laurel (LD) Austin and myself in helping to create truly epic illustration artwork for all of Blizzard's games. The position is full-time, and I can personally attest to how much fun we have here on a daily basis. The atmosphere is lighthearted. Daily injections of hijinks ensue with a side order of shenanigans, while the people are friendly, high spirited artists bent on world domination…or at least the continued pursuit of creating fantastic art!

So if you are a well-qualified individual, meeting the requirements described in the link below, please apply!!

You are welcome to post links to your online portfolios here, but please also go through the official channels and apply through Blizzard Entertainment's website portal which should also be found in the link below.

Hello!

I saw your gallery and I've got to say you have awsome drawing skills! Totally cool designs and technique! No wonder you work at Blizzard!

I have a question if you will consider answering it. I did some searching on google trying to find info on hiring conditions at Blizzard, and one thing it kept repeating is that 3D software skills are a must. I was wondering if it is possible to get hired only for the concept drawings, character and set design skills. I have basic understanting of 3d computer graphics, game engines. I tryed a few times to play with 3dmax but I never focused enough energy to get a complete understanfing of the stepts involved. Also I have basic understanding of computer programing, but again, can't say I am experienced. However I have a quite solid understanding of Photoshop and I can easilly learn anny other similar program. I have gained my skills while doing webdesign. Supose I focus really hard at mastering the artistic skills involved and I could show off some insanlly good designs, would it be posible to get hired?

Thank you very much!

I would say that learning a 3d program like Max or Maya makes you much more hirable.

You have to be insanely good to be hired on as a concept artist without any previous experience, especially at developers like Blizzard. So my advice is the same to you as I have offered to many artists before you and that is this:

Don't expect to be a concept artist when you start. You're skipping all of the important educational steps beforehand. Work to get a job in the game industry first, whether that's doing 3d, textures, concept art, etc. It almost doesn't matter.

Make becoming a concept artist your eventual goal, but keep in mind how many extremely talented and qualified concept artists already exist doing the jobs you want. I'm not saying its impossible, I'm just saying it's going to be a difficult road, filled with twists and turns, and if you want that job, you need to be at least as good as they are, or even better. And the best way to get that way is to work your way up, by gathering experience learning every facet of game development you can.

That's why I am offering this line of advice. It's often times not what inexperienced artists want to hear, but like anything worth while, it's best if you earn it.

Wow, very sound and logical advice. Inexperienced artists (or anyone really) do not want to hear that they are not ready to plunge into senior roles right away. They believe starting from the bottom is beneath them and they are ready to take on more than you can throw at them. I interview many candidates in the IT industry and I always come across people that get upset when I suggest they start at a beginner/intermediate role. The problem is they have raw talent, but they do not understand the industry or intricacies of the job or environment and can easily get swallowed up in it. You need a thick skin and experience to truly do well in any industry you want to grow in as well as well honed skills in various tools to branch out.

Thank you very much for your advice! I don't find it discouraging and I will definitely consider learning maya or 3d max. Also gathering experience about the game development workflow clearly is needed. Again, thanks for advice and it's nice to have the chanche to talk with an artist from Blizzard! :D

I am a bit internet paranoid. I have 2 of my own IPs that I work on in my own time, and I never post any work related to it. Not even a single image. In fact, I'd say 95% of what I create never gets posted. I only post stuff that is either published or unimportant for the most part.... good news is that at some point this year, I will post some of it and unveil one of my big projects.

Ah, thats freaking awesome really looking forward to it:D I am actually more fan of your personal work (at least what you got here on deviant art) than you profesional work. Your personal stuff is a lot more playful in terms of color and design, but hey what do i know:P

And i am also going to try to get an internship at blizzard next summer, i dont really think i will get in, but you never know right:P
